Countdown Timer
Countdown Timer is a free time tool that runs directly in your browser with no account required.
About this tool
A full-screen countdown timer that runs entirely in your browser. Set hours, minutes, and seconds or tap a preset, then start it and get a repeating alarm sound, a flashing browser-tab title, and an optional desktop notification when the time hits zero. Pause and resume without losing your place.
How to use
- Enter Hours, Minutes, and Seconds, or tap a preset like 5:00 or 25:00.
- Optionally type a Label so the notification and tab title tell you which timer finished.
- Press Start; use Pause to hold the count and Resume to continue, or Reset to return to your set time.
- When it reaches zero the alarm rings — press Dismiss to silence it.
Frequently asked questions
Does the timer keep accurate time if I switch tabs?
Yes. It tracks the real target time rather than counting down tick by tick, so backgrounding the tab does not cause drift. The on-screen display simply catches up when you return.
Will it still ring if I am on another tab?
The alarm sound and the flashing tab title work in the background. If you granted notification permission, you also get a desktop notification, which is the most reliable way to be alerted from another tab.
Why do I need to allow notifications?
Notifications are optional. They let the timer alert you at the operating-system level even when the browser is minimized. The audible alarm and tab-title flash work without them.
Is anything sent to a server?
No. The timer runs completely in your browser with no upload and no account. The alarm sound is generated locally with the Web Audio API, so no audio file is downloaded.
How long does the alarm keep ringing?
It rings for up to 30 seconds or until you press Dismiss, whichever comes first.
