Temperature Converter

Temperature Converter is a free converters tool that runs directly in your browser with no account required.

About this tool

Move a temperature between Celsius, Fahrenheit, and Kelvin in one step. The converter normalizes your input to Celsius, then applies the standard formulas, F equals C times 9/5 plus 32 and K equals C plus 273.15, and displays the result to two decimal places. It handles any value, including negatives and scientific edge cases like absolute zero.

How to use

  1. Enter the value in the Temperature field.
  2. Choose the source scale under From: Celsius, Fahrenheit, or Kelvin.
  3. Choose the target scale under To and read the converted result.

Frequently asked questions

What formulas are used?

Fahrenheit to Celsius is (F - 32) x 5/9, Celsius to Fahrenheit is C x 9/5 + 32, and Kelvin is Celsius plus 273.15. Conversions between Fahrenheit and Kelvin chain through Celsius.

Why is Kelvin just Celsius plus 273.15?

The Kelvin scale uses the same degree size as Celsius but starts at absolute zero, which sits at -273.15 degrees Celsius. That fixed offset is the entire conversion.

At what temperature are Celsius and Fahrenheit equal?

At -40, the two scales cross: -40 degrees Celsius and -40 degrees Fahrenheit are the same temperature. You can verify it in the converter.

Can I enter negative temperatures?

Yes, negatives are fine for Celsius and Fahrenheit. Note that Kelvin values below 0 have no physical meaning, since 0 K is absolute zero, though the arithmetic will still compute.

How many decimal places does the result show?

Two. For example, 25 degrees Celsius converts to 77.00 Fahrenheit and 298.15 Kelvin.
