Retirement Calculator

Retirement Calculator is a free finance tool that runs directly in your browser with no account required.

About this tool

This calculator estimates whether your savings trajectory supports the retirement income you want. It grows your current savings and monthly contributions to retirement age, inflates your desired income to future dollars, converts the shortfall after other income into a target nest egg using your withdrawal rate, and reports the gap plus the monthly contribution needed to close it. Scenario rows stress-test higher contributions, lower returns, and higher inflation, and everything exports to CSV.

How to use

  1. Enter your Current age, Retirement age, and Current retirement savings.
  2. Set your Monthly contribution, expected Annual return %, and Inflation %.
  3. Enter your Desired annual income today, a Withdrawal rate %, and any Other annual retirement income such as Social Security.
  4. Check the retirement status, projected gap, and Monthly needed figure, then use Download retirement CSV for the age-by-age timeline and scenarios.

Frequently asked questions

How is the target nest egg calculated?

Your desired income and other income are both inflated to retirement-year dollars, the remaining income need is divided by your withdrawal rate, and that quotient is the savings target. For example, a $60,000 future need at a 4% withdrawal rate requires $1.5 million.

What assumptions does the growth projection use?

Contributions are added monthly and the balance compounds at the annual return divided by 12, with no taxes, fees, or market volatility. It is a smooth-growth estimate, not a market simulation.

What withdrawal rates are allowed?

Anything above 0% and up to 20%. The common starting point is 4%, and lower rates produce larger, more conservative targets.

What do the scenario rows show?

Alongside your base plan, the tool re-runs the projection with a 25% higher contribution, a return 2 points lower, and inflation 1 point higher, so you can see how sensitive your plan is to each assumption.

Is any of my financial data uploaded?

No. All projections run locally in your browser, and the CSV is generated on your device.

Can I base my retirement plan on this alone?

Use it as a rough gauge. Real planning involves taxes, account types, sequence-of-returns risk, and benefits rules that this simplified model omits — it is not financial advice.
